The goal of Integrative Functional Medicine is to provide a personalized and integrative approach to healthcare which involves understanding the prevention, management, and root causes of complex chronic disease. Integrative Functional Medicine offers the most comprehensive and effective approach to healthcare in the 21st century. Integrative Functional Medicine treats the person who has the disease, not the disease the person has.
Dr. Zhou uses the Traditional Chinese Medical principles and his experience as a medical professional to find the diagnosis for your acute or severe medical issues. When dealing with chronic and/or complex medical issues, Dr. Zhou will use a holistic framework to guide him to provide you with the best possible treatment plan. As the one of the guiding principles of Integrative Functional Medicine is to treat the person who has the disease, not the disease the person has. Once the Dr. Zhou has found the root cause of the illness, he will prepare an all encompassing treatment plan, which may include targeted acupuncture treatments, dietary changes, and/or lifestyle changes to help the patient reach a full recovery.
Based on the understanding and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Qigong, Dr. Zhou developed a set of his unique qigong therapy. Energy cleansing can unblock your energy channels. Your body, mind, and spirit could be relaxed deeply, then you can enhance your own energy. Usually energy cleansing takes place before acupuncture treatments, so the treatment effect can be doubled or tripled.
Acupuncture provides an alternative healthcare option for those who seek a holistic, natural, and comprehensive approach. The World Health Organization (WHO) whose authority concerning health-related matters internationally cannot be challenged, has compiled a list of symptoms, syndromes, disease processes, pathologists, traumas, and conditions that have been proven as effectively treated by acupuncture.
Your first visit will begin with a thorough analysis of your condition and health history. You will be asked questions about your health history, your specific complaint, and your general health: including how well you sleep, digest, eliminate, breathe, and so forth. The Traditional Chinese Medicinal approach involves looking for patterns in both the patient’s physical and emotional well-being, which Dr. Zhou will use to help him develop a treatment plan that is specific not only for your symptoms, but for your overall health pattern.
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of QI in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences. Moxa is usually made from the dried leafy material of Chinese mugwort.
Moxibustion is used for:
● Pain due to injury or arthritis, especially in “cold” patterns where the pain naturally feels better with the application of heat
● Digestive problems and irregular elimination
● Gynecological and obstetrical conditions, including breech presentation in late term pregnancy
● Protection against cold and flu strains
Practitioners often do both acupuncture and moxibustion in the same clinic session when appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment strategy. Practitioners believe that these therapies increase each other’s effectiveness when used together.
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that balances the body and maintains good health by promoting circulation of the blood and releasing tension. Unlike acupuncture, acupressure doesn't employ needles, but instead pressure is administered by fingers or hands to stimulate acupuncture points on the surface of the skin. When these trigger points are pressed, they release muscular tension, and promote circulation of blood, and the body's life force energy to aid healing.
Tui-Na is one of the ancient healing arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Tui- Na was practiced in China to treat conditions that in the West would require an osteopath, chiropractor, physiotherapist, or sports therapist. Chinese massage is holistic in its orientation, which means that massage is understood to affect the patient's’ entire being, not just his or her physical body.
Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of releasing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your tissues causing the tissues to release harmful toxins. It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed, and localized healing takes place. It is common to see skin color changes after this therapy is done.
